Short answer: choose a business automation consultant who can help you design the business system, not only execute a technical brief. Automation should remove repeated work, not automate a broken process and make mistakes faster.

Good proof includes:

Be careful with a quote that is too fixed before the provider understands the workflow. It may look cheaper, but the missing thinking usually comes back later as change requests, delays or a system staff avoid.
